■■■■□ AI in warfare to kill.
🇮🇱🇱🇧🇱🇧⚡️ — Israel has used an AI-powered targeting system to identify and strike Hezbollah members in Lebanon by combining data from smartphones, drones, traffic and security cameras, Wi-Fi signals, government databases, and social media, according to the LA Times.
➡️ The system, built on platforms including Palantir Technologies’ Maven infrastructure, can rapidly process massive amounts of data, map relationship networks, track movements, and generate “threat profiles” in seconds — work that previously took intelligence teams weeks.
➡️ Israeli officials say the technology has been central to operations targeting Hezbollah leaders and infrastructure since the 2024 pager attacks.
➡️ Experts warn that AI-driven systems may incorrectly identify civilians because they rely heavily on metadata, behavioral patterns, and association networks rather than direct evidence.
The report focuses on the killing of Ahmad Turmus in February, a 62-year-old Hezbollah liaison in southern Lebanon.
An Israeli officer called him shortly before the strike that would take his life and asked: “You want to die with those around you or alone?” Turmus answered “alone” before hanging up.
After the phone call, Ahmad Turmus’ family said his expression changed immediately. He told relatives that the Israelis were targeting him and urged everyone to leave the house and let him die alone. Family members begged him to flee and even suggested disguising him so he could escape.
Turmus refused, saying: “They know my face. There’s nothing we can do against this.” As he left, he deliberately avoided acknowledging his wife so she would not try to stop him, according to relatives.
He got into his car and drove away. Less than 30 seconds later, two missiles struck the vehicle, killing him.
